MOGADISHU – 09.07. 2026:  Following a Ministry of Information joint statement issued Wednesday, Somalia’s federal government and opposition leaders have committed to ongoing talks to defuse recent political tensions.

The Mogadishu meeting, which took place on July 7, was described as a candid, constructive, and amicable discussion regarding the nation’s political landscape. To bolster security, national development, and political stability, both parties agreed to move forward with a more inclusive dialogue.

While the statement did not outline a concrete schedule for future meetings or reveal any specific agreements, it confirmed that negotiations will continue. Additionally, both sides commended Turkey for its role in brokering the talks and praised Ankara’s ongoing support.

The discussions follow months of friction surrounding Somalia’s constitutional framework and electoral processes—issues that have prompted international stakeholders to repeatedly call for peaceful dialogue to safeguard stability in the Horn of Africa.
